Embodiment Construction

[0038] figure 1 In general use the label K 1 A kit identifying a first embodiment of the invention. Kit K 1 Including a syringe assembly 10 (such as figure 2 Shown more clearly), a point of attention test box 12 and Figure 4 The plastic assembly assembly 14 is shown.

[0039] Such as figure 2 As shown, syringe assembly 10 includes a syringe body 16 having a proximal end 18 and a distal end 20 . A sleeve 22 extends distally from the proximal end 18 and defines a cylindrical fluid receiving chamber 24 that opens broadly at the proximal end 18 . A frusto-conical inclined tip 26 extends from the sleeve 22 toward the distal end 20 of the syringe body 16 . Tip 26 defines a narrow cylindrical passage 28 which communicates with fluid receiving chamber 24 of sleeve 22 . A collar 30 extends distally from the sleeve 22 and concentrically surrounds the tip 26 . The collar 30 is provided with a series of internal threads 32 . Syringe assembly 10 also includes a plunger 34 slid...

Abstract

Provides a kit and method for convenient point-of-care testing of body fluids. The kit includes a point-of-care test cartridge and a plastic adapter for use with a syringe to deliver a fluid sample to the test cartridge. In other embodiments, the kit includes a plastic sleeve in place of the adapter. The syringe and plastic cannula can be used with the IV Access Kit to obtain fluid samples. The syringe and plastic cannula can then be used to deliver fluid to the reservoir of the test cartridge.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 280,403, US Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 280,437, and US Provisional Patent Application No. 60 / 280,444, all filed March 30,2001. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a method of withdrawing a fluid sample using a syringe and delivering the fluid to a point-of-care test cartridge. The present invention also relates to a kit of parts that can be used with a portable clinical analyzer that can be used to draw a fluid sample from a patient for point-of-care clinical analysis. Background technique [0004] Many medical procedures require the performance of diagnostic tests on fluid samples from patients. Fluid is typically collected from the patient using a needle holder assembly and one or more vacuum lines. Tubes are carefully labeled and shipped to laboratories for analysis. The results of the laboratory analysis are then reported ba...
