Problems solved by technology

[0007] (3) Finally, electrotherapists use electrical currents to cause muscle contractions without realizing that in order to strengthen the muscles in this way the impulses must be similar to those used by the body
The report did not distinguish between AC and DC, and did not treat bioelectricity as involving electron motion at all

Embodiment Construction

[0023] figure 1 -2 shows a device 100 for generating pulses to stimulate muscle transverse tubules according to the present invention. The device 100 includes a switching circuit 102 and associated circuitry, indicated generally at 104 . The switching circuit is preferably a CMOS 4583 solid state integrated circuit. However, other switching circuits are also suitable for other embodiments of the invention.

[0024] The device 100 includes a 90 volt DC power supply 106 with a positive output connected to a power resistor 108 and a 12 volt zener diode 110 . In a preferred embodiment, the AC from the wall outlet is transformed and rectified by a transformer / rectifier (not shown) to obtain the required DC voltage. The negative output of power supply 106 is connected to system ground at node A of circuit 102 . Power supply 106 is used to generate a 12 volt DC signal at node B, which is connected to system ground through capacitor 112 . Node B is also connected to two timing ci...

Abstract

The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for passing an anode probe over the neuromuscular junction of the motor nerve endplate region / muscle at a duration in the range of about 0.2 milliseconds to about 1 millisecond and a frequency of at least 1000 Hz. , uses electrochemistry to tone and strengthen muscles at an intensity where each pulse causes the muscle to vibrate or contract only slightly. DC is applied at a current ranging from about 5 milliamps to about 25 milliamps and a DC voltage ranging from about 50 volts to about 120 volts. A DC voltage is used to transfer the charge, which is preferably at least 3 watts.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods and devices for strengthening and toning muscles. In particular, the present invention relates to strengthening muscles with electrical pulses through the use of electrochemistry. Background technique [0002] Using electricity to tone or strengthen muscles has a long history of questionable claims. Most of these claims are unsubstantiated. Neither NASA nor any professional athletes or bodybuilders use the technology, instead relying on traditional resistance training. [0003] Rehabilitation specialists, chiropractors, and physical therapy doctors still subject patients to rigorous electrotherapy. They claim this has some effect on changes in muscle structure but cannot give details about this structural change. The endorsement of electrotherapy for muscle strengthening is based on changes in patient performance. These changes were so insignificant that electrotherapy had to be discontinued or proved to be...
