Abstract

A composition that employs a fluoropolymer processing aid containing fluorinated copolymer having relatively high amounts of vinylidene fluoride to address melt-processing issues related to melt-processable polymeric compositions.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to compositions for improving melt processing of polymeric materials, and more particularly to specific fluoropolymer processing aids suitable for improving the processing of melt processable thermoplastic hydrocarbon polymers. Background technique [0002] Fluoropolymers are often used as processing aids in the melt processing of polymeric materials such as polyolefins. Certain viscoelastic characteristics of polymeric materials can cause undesirable defects in the finished product when melt processed. This is particularly evident in the extrusion process of certain extrudable polymers at which there is a critical shear rate above which the surface of the extrudate exhibits a melt defect. Melt defects can appear as rough surfaces on the extrudate, commonly referred to as melt fractures. Melt fracture is primarily a function of the rheology of the polymer as well as the processing temperature and speed of the polymer. ...
