Abstract

A coated confectionery product has a confectionery center (20); a first coating surrounding the center and comprising a fat (24); and a second coating (28) surrounding the first coating and comprising a hard shell made from one or more sugars, polyols, high intensity sweeteners and mixtures thereof. The sugar may be selected from the group consisting of sucrose, dextrose, maltose. Optionally a third coating (30) may surround the second coating layer and comprise a film comprising film forming agents.

Background technique [0001] The present invention relates to confectionery, in particular to confectionery coated with multiple coatings, each layer having different properties. [0002] A wide variety of coated confectioneries is available. Many confections, such as M&M's CRISPIES, have a hard center with a hard shell coating immediately outside the chocolate layer, as disclosed in US Patent No. 6,207,207. Other confectionery, coated or uncoated, having breath freshening properties. Some coated confectioneries contain flavors in the coating. US Patent No. 6,783,783, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety, discloses a core tablet composition and a coating layer having an initial mild flavor effect that gradually intensifies as the product remains in the mouth.
