Embodiment Construction

[0071] Figure 1 shows a PET detector in radial and transverse orientations. The axial direction, ie the direction in which the measuring object is supported on the couch, corresponds to the direction in which the dimensions of the PET detector according to the invention are reduced to the smallest possible value for cost-effective production of the PET detector, The axis is therefore perpendicular to the paper. Different PET detector setups that can be employed according to the invention are shown in FIG. 1 . According to FIG. 1A , the PET detector 1 consists of two position-sensitive large planar detector plates 1 a , 1 b , between which the object of measurement is arranged. In all the exemplary embodiments of FIG. 1 , the detector plates 1 a , 1 b comprise a gamma-ray-sensitive crystal layer 6 and a downstream photomultiplier layer 7 . In FIG. 1A the detector plates 1 a , 1 b have such axial and transverse dimensions that no rotation of the detector plates 1 a , 1 b aroun...

Abstract

A combined PET / MRT unit is disclosed that includes a PET detector which is reduced by comparison with the prior art, and that consists, for example, of a PET detector with a polygonal arrangement of the detector elements or with a PET detector ring. The PET detector is reduced in an axial direction by comparison with the detectors of the prior art, as a result of which the costs for producing the expensive PET detectors are lowered. The reduction of the PET detector is possible because the MR measurement usually lasts longer than the PET measurement, and so a reduced PET detector can be used for the temporally sequential recording of a number of PET tomograms by mechanical displacement of the PET detector. Since the MR measurement lasts substantially longer, this mechanical displacement does not lead to a lengthening of the measuring time. The invention also relates to methods for simultaneously recording MR and PET tomograms in which the PET / MRT units according to the invention are used.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a combined positron emission tomography / magnetic resonance tomography device (PET-MRT device) and an imaging method for the simultaneous recording of MR tomograms and PE tomograms, in which method a PET-MRT device is used. The structure according to the invention of the PET scanner contained in the PE tomography system of the combined PET-MRT system makes it possible to reduce the production costs of the PET-MRT system according to the invention. Background technique [0002] Magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) is an imaging method that makes it possible to produce cross-sectional images of living organs such as a human body with high resolution. The patient is placed in a homogeneous magnetic field B0. The external magnetic field in the FOV (field of view) is varied by means of gradient coils in such a way that a volume slice is selected and the resulting MR signals are encoded in position. In a subsequent reconstruction of ...
