Modular pet detector system for radiotherapy system

Variations of a modular positron emission tomography (PET) detector system are disclosed herein. In some variations, the modular PET detector system is part of a radiotherapy system. The modular PET detector system includes a rotatable ring and a PET cartridge reversibly coupled to the rotatable ring. The rotatable ring may have a cooling circuit including a cooling conduit having a fluid therein. The PET cartridge may be reversibly coupled to the rotatable ring such that the PET cartridge is in thermal contact with the cooling circuit. The thermal contact or interface between the PET cartridge and the cooling circuit facilitates transfer of heat without transferring any fluid between the cooling circuit and the PET cartridge. The circuit board of the PET cartridge can be aligned vertically relative to the photon detection surface, which can reduce the force on the cartridge when the PET cartridge is coupled to the rotatable ring.
