The invention relates to a method to produce diesel oil by hydrogenating and decrease the freezing point of the coal tar. Separate the coal tar into dreg oil and distillate oil. Under proper operating conditions, make the distillate oil and hydrogen go through the catalyst beds to get diesel oil with low freezing point and a small quantity of naphtha which contains low content of sulphur and nitrogen. The characteristic of the invention is that the mentioned catalyst beds include hydrogenated catalyst which contains 0.5-<20wt% betazeolite. The key of the invention is that it can directly provide high-quality diesel products with low freezing point and high hexadecane value; besides, it has provided a proper processing technology to make reasonable use of the coal tar.
