Embodiment Construction

[0032] The present invention includes a power conversion circuit and a corresponding method that provide a hold time, so that the power converter can continue to work in the absence of the required input line voltage. A capacitor is charged through an independent coil, and only after the input voltage fails, the capacitor is controlled to provide energy to the converter. The invention works in a wider input voltage range, and adopts a smaller and less cost holding capacitor than the existing converter to provide the required holding time.

[0033] The invention overcomes the shortcomings of the existing circuits and methods. Refer to Figure 3A to 5 Explain the invention. Figure 3A A preferred embodiment of the power converter 200 according to the present invention is shown. For the AC-DC power converter 200, the input AC is rectified by a rectifier 220, which is preferably a bridge rectifier to generate non-smooth DC between the positive terminal 215 and the negative terminal 21...

Abstract

A power converter is provided that operates over a wide range input and utilizes a smaller, lower cost holdup capacitor to provide the required holdup time. A charging circuit is provided to charge a capacitor through the auxiliary coil. Power converters include circuitry to direct energy from the capacitors to the converter to provide hold-up time during loss of input voltage while making good use of the stored energy. The power converter of the present invention also provides these functions using fewer and lower cost components than prior art devices.

Description

Field of invention: [0001] The present invention relates to a power converter, and more particularly, to a power converter that effectively provides a required hold-up time during a power transmission line failure. Background technique: [0002] Many electronic devices require one or more regulated direct current (DC) voltages. The power supply for these electronic devices is usually provided by a power converter that converts the input voltage into the regulated DC voltage required by the device. Many types of power converters can work within a wide input voltage range. If the input power drops below the minimum allowable voltage and adversely affects the operation of the converter, electronic devices that rely on the power converter to provide power may experience fatal losses, such as loss of data. The length of time that the power converter can continue to operate in the absence of the power line voltage is regarded as the hold-up time. An existing method for converters to so...
