[0037] Emissions measurements were tested on three motor vehicles comparing lower octane (less than 86.7) gasoline to gasoline with an octane minimum of 87. The gasolines tested are listed in Table 1. These gasolines are produced from refinery streams or of the same composition as refinery streams. Refinery streams used are isomerate, heavy reformate and FCC naphtha, heavy resid and light alkylate where toluene can replace light reformate and mixed isohexane can replace light quality residual oil. Light reformed products are generally considered to be mainly C 7 -C 8 , which is mainly toluene, so toluene can replace it. Also mixed isohexane is considered to be similar to light resid. Note the relatively low olefin content of the fuels tested. This is because it is difficult to find suitable blending feedstocks that are low in sulfur and high in olefins.
