Embodiment Construction

[0032] figure 1 The general structure of a system for regulating the power of an electric rail vehicle according to a particular embodiment of the invention is shown.

[0033] As shown in the figure, the system includes a stage 20 for calculating the maximum power P available to the catenary max and operated in parallel with a stage 21 for calculating the no-load voltage of the substation feeding the suspension cables The rail vehicle is then connected to the suspension cables.

[0034] The stage 20 for calculating the maximum power comprises a module 6 for calculating the resistance R of the catenary and a module 10 for calculating the maximum power P available to the catenary max .

[0035] Module 6 receives the suspension cable voltage V from the corresponding sensors 14 and 15 on the pantograph of the rail electric vehicle cat and suspension current I cat , and the value obtained by stage 21 for calculating the no-load voltage of the substation as the input measure...

Abstract

The power control procedure for the electrical motor of a railway vehicle deriving power from a catenary cable uses measurement of the open voltage (Vcat0), evaluated at the sub-station. From this the maximum available power for a catenary cable section is determined, and the power taken by the engine is limited to lie within this permitted maximum. The procedure for controlling the power required by the engine of a railway vehicle operates with current collectors co-operating with a catenary cable supplied with direct current by sub-stations distributed along the railway route. It includes measuring the catenary voltage (Vcat) at the engine level, and measuring the catenary current (Icat) at the engine level. The open voltage (Vcat0) is evaluated at the sub-stations supplying the catenary cable to which the engine is connected, and the maximum power available at the catenary cable is determined by the relation Pmax = (Vcat0)2 / 4asteriskR, where R is the resistance of the cable. The power requested by the motor is the limited to a limit value (Plim) which is less than or equal to the calculated maximum power.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for regulating the power of a railmotor powered by a DC suspension cable. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method of adjusting the power required by the track motors as the power available on the suspension cables changes. The invention also relates to a system for carrying out the method described above. Background technique [0002] DC power is usually added to the rail locomotives via suspension cables powered by substations located along the railway tracks. Substations are rated to provide a specific power and if the suspension cables cannot be properly supplied due to many rolling stock being supplied by the substation at the same time on a section of track, or due to engineering construction or long distances between substations, and If the power absorbed by the rail electric locomotive is greater than the power that can be supplied by the suspension cables, a voltage drop will be generated...
