Problems solved by technology

[0005] Therefore, the technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to propose a computer-implemented method for detecting neurodegenerated brain regions and vascularly altered brain regions in the brain, and an imaging device implementing the method, which method and device consume improved timing and thus provide a reliable data basis for a thorough examination above all without the cooperation of the patient

Embodiment Construction

[0037]Embodiments of the present invention are described below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

[0038] figure 1 Various steps of a method 100 for detecting neurodegenerated brain regions 10 and vascularly altered brain regions 13 are shown. In a first step 102 , a radioactively labeled substance 12 is injected into a person under examination, ie a patient. In this case, the substance 12 is to be recorded, in particular, from a neurodegenerative dementia brain region 10 . This specificity can be shown in the altered brain region 10 below the average concentration as well as above the average concentration relative to the unaltered tissue. Fluorine 18 was used as the positron-emitting isotope. Correspondingly labeled 2-(1-{6-[(2-[fluoro-18]ethyl)(methyl)amino]-2-naphthyl}-acetal) was used as substance 12 in this example Malononitrile. This substance 12 is absorbed by so-called amyloid plaques at elevated concentrations and is detected in a further method ste...

Abstract

A computerized method is disclosed for detecting a brain region with neurodegenerative change and also a brain region with vascular change in the brain of a patient and also an imaging arrangement suitable for this. In at least one embodiment, the method includes recording a first data record of the brain via positron emission tomography and a second data record of the brain via magnetic resonance imaging; reconstructing a PET image from the first data record and an MRI image from the second data record; identifying evidence for a brain region with vascular change in the MRI image; segmenting the MRI image into gray matter and white matter; identifying a brain region with neurodegenerative change in the PET image; and superposing the PET image and the segmented MRI image to determine whether the brain region with neurodegenerative change is present in gray matter or in white matter, the recording of the first data record and the second data record being carried out in quick succession without repositioning the patient or is even carried out simultaneously.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a computer-implemented method for detecting neurodegeneration in a brain region and vascular changes in a brain region of a patient, a corresponding computer program, a data carrier on which the computer program is stored, and a An imaging device implementing the method. Background technique [0002] Neuropathological changes, such as in particular degenerative changes or vascular changes, lead to possible dementias in specific brain regions for different reasons. A comprehensive and as accurate as possible examination of dementia requires not only clinical neuropsychological and laboratory chemistry tests, but also the use of imaging methods. Magnetic resonance tomography (MRT for short) and nuclear medicine imaging (NM for short) are mostly used for this purpose. The reliability of these methods varies depending on the type and form of dementia. For example, incipient Alzheimer's disease can be confirmed at an early stage ...
