Abstract

The present invention relates to a laryngeal mask airway device which facilitates the pulmonary ventilation in unconscious patient. The laryngeal mask device comprises a curved or flexible tube which enters the inner part of hollow cover part and has one opened end. The cover part comprises a back plate and a cover vesicle. The cover part is formed accorded with and easily suitable for the actual and latent space after the larynx. The circumference surrounding the inlet of larynx is sealed without penetration into the inner part of larynx. The invention is characterized in that the surface of device at least partially comprises poly-p-xylene which provides a low friction surface for the improved insertion of artificial respiratory tract device.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a laryngeal mask airway device comprising parylene. Background technique [0002] Laryngeal mask airway devices are well known and are useful for establishing an airway or monitoring anesthesia in unconscious patients. For example, the popular laryngeal mask airway device that has been marketed commercially by the Laryngeal Mask Company Ltd. as the "Classic". Such devices are described, for example, in US Patent No. 4,509,514, and generally include a mask portion and an airway tube that, when in a fully inserted configuration, establishes an airway in the patient. For simplicity of description, the term "fully inserted configuration" will be used herein to refer to a laryngeal mask airway device that has been inserted into a patient and has the following characteristics: (1) the distal end of the mask portion exerts pressure on the patient's normally closed esophageal sphincter; ( 2) the cuff forms a seal around the p...
