Background of the invention [0002] Arginine and other basic amino acids have been proposed for oral care and are considered to be of significant benefit in combating caries formation and tooth sensitivity. Commercially available arginine-based toothpastes such as ProClude or DenClude , for example containing arginine bicarbonate; however, such salts are expensive. [0003] Arginine bicarbonate was prepared by bubbling carbon dioxide through saturated aqueous arginine solution. However, the efficiency of existing processes needs improvement.
