Abstract

A method and apparatus for determining the state of mixing for the preparation of animal feed, wherein a host computer is programmed to store a general list of ingredients, which is available to the farmer and from which the farmer can select a specific one. The components are used in the preparation of animal feed. The host computer is programmed to store ingredients in a look-up table cross-referenced to standard mixing periods during which the corresponding ingredients should be subjected to produce animal feed. In addition, the look-up table contains mixing factors by which the standard mixing period can be varied to account for non-standard conditions, such as changes in ingredients, ratios of specific ingredients, average size or weight of animals, and mixing equipment in which animal feed is to be mixed and its condition. The computer is programmed to determine the mixing period that each ingredient is to undergo in the mixing device based on the corresponding standard mixing period and any mixing factors that should be considered. The computer is programmed to subsequently generate the order in which the components are to be loaded into the mixing device and the times at which the corresponding components are to be loaded into the mixing device, so that each component is subjected to stress for that component during the mixing cycle of the mixed state.
