Embodiment Construction

[0088] In general, the present invention contemplates monitoring and determining the response provided by a distributed source of one or more power consuming devices to one or more generators mutually electrically coupled to said one or more devices together via a power network A system at the level of load service; the power network (ie the grid) is used to cause power to be supplied from the generator to the one or more power consumers. A level of load responsive service includes, for example, the degree to which one or more power consumers are able to match their electrical load presented to the power network in response to the generator's ability to supply power to the power network. In practice, the level of responsive load service provided will not be perfect, and in this case it is highly desirable to be able to determine the degree of imperfection that occurs in practice under various dynamic situations. A feature of the invention is that one or more power consuming de...

Abstract

A system employs a method of determining a level of potential responsive-load electrical power network service susceptible to being provided by one or more power consuming devices (100). The method includes: (a) determining operating characteristics of power consuming devices; (b) developing a parameterized numerical model of operation of the power consuming devices based upon the determined operating characteristics; (c) developing an operating regime using the numerical model and a set of operating rules for the devices for providing responsive-load electrical power network service; (d) applying the operating regime to each of the devices; and (e) monitoring operating characteristics of the power consuming devices (100) after installation for verifying their responsive-load electrical power network service.; Optionally, the devices are operable to function autonomously to provide their responsive- load electrical power network service. Optionally, the parameterized numerical model of operation describes a fullest extent to which the power consuming devices are capable of providing responsive-load electrical power network service.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a responsive load monitoring system for monitoring the operation of a responsive load coupled to a power network to provide dynamic demand response. Furthermore, the invention also contemplates a method for monitoring the dynamic demand response of an electricity consumer used in providing dynamic demand response to an electricity network. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a software product recorded on a machine-readable data storage medium, executable on computing hardware for implementing the aforementioned method. Background technique [0002] The electrical system includes a generator, a power consumer, and a power network coupling the generator to the power consumer. The electrical network is often referred to as the "grid". In operation, the power output provided from the generator may fluctuate temporarily, as may the power demand exhibited by the power consumer. As a result, AC frequency and AC v...
