Problems solved by technology

[0005] The problem with this previously known segmented hob is that the machining accuracy of the surface produced in the workpiece is not high enough for certain applications
Additionally, mounting separate segments on a common shaft or mandrel is occasionally problematic and occasionally requires complex adjustment grinding
In these cases, this is particularly cumbersome when, for example, after some individual segments have been damaged, the knives have to be removed and put together again with new undamaged segments

Embodiment Construction

[0029] exist figure 1 , schematically shows a milling cutter 1 manufactured according to an embodiment of the invention during the machining of a workpiece W for the purpose of forming a cog (for clarity, the cog and notch are shown in the final machining state ). In other words, the invention is exemplified in the form of a segmented hob. In this example, the tool 1 is mounted on a shaft 2 whose central axis is designated C1 and which is clamped at one end in a chuck 3 and at the opposite end in a support bracket 4 . The segments which together form the milling cutter 1 are placed between a pair of end pieces, one of which is designated 5 and the other end piece is designated 6 . In order to transmit the torque from the drive shaft 2 to the tool 1, the wedge 7 is countersunk in a groove on the drive shaft and engages with an internal groove in the different segments. While the workpiece W can be turned or rotated in the direction R2 , more precisely around the center axis ...

Abstract

The invention relates to a milling cutter formed for hobbing workpieces with cogs, such as cogwheels, racks, etc., and comprising a cylindrical cutter body defining an axis of rotation and comprising a plurality of disk-shaped segments. Each segment includes a peripheral cam and a hub portion having two opposing, parallel-planar end surfaces. The adjoining segments are detachably interconnected by means of each of mating pairs of male and female members. The male and female members are arranged such that the axis of rotation extends therethrough. Both the male and female members include contact surfaces that converge from the large end towards the small end and form a non-circular curve in section across the axis of rotation. The contact surfaces of the male and female members are dimensioned so that when they are joined together they guide their two adjoining segments towards a final position which is centered and determined about the axis of rotation by a non-circular section curve mutual angle, and in the final position, the end surfaces abut against each other. Furthermore, the invention relates to such a knife segment.

Description

technical field [0001] In a first aspect, the invention relates to a milling cutter formed for hobbing workpieces having cogs, such as cogwheels, racks, etc., comprising a cylindrical body defining axis of rotation and includes a plurality of disc-shaped segments. [0002] In a further aspect, the invention also relates to a separate segment for a knife. Background technique [0003] Milling cutters for hobbing are usually provided as solid cutters in which the milling inserts are placed along a helix that follows a cylindrical cutter body. In the manufacture of such tools, in those cases where the milling insert is integrated in the tool body, there may occasionally be problems of obtaining access to machine the seat for the milling insert or the milling insert itself. This is due to the fact that the distance between axially successive turns of the helix of the milling insert is occasionally narrow. This is the reason why milling cutters for hob milling are also provide...
