The method comprises the following steps that: the network element providing an NETCONF (Network Configuration Protocol) server function finishes acquisition of the data requested by the RPC (Remote Procedure Call) request by multiple inquiries according to the storage order of the data requested by the RPC request in the network element, wherein the RPC request is issued by a network management system which provides an NETCONF client-side function; after each query, the network element carries the queried data in corresponding RPC response so as to send the data to the network management system. With the adoption of the technical scheme provided by the embodiment of the invention, the response speed of carrying out query operation through the network management system of the network operation and maintenance workers can be improved, the time from issuing the RPC request by the network management system to finishing analysis on the returned data is reduced end to end, and the CPU (Central Processing Unit) load caused by processing mass of data in a centralized form by the network management system is lowered.
