Abstract

The invention discloses an automatic frequency-tuning phase-locked loop and an automatic frequency-tuning method thereof. The phase-locked loop includes a phase frequency detector, a charge pump, a loop filter, a voltage-controlled oscillator, a frequency divider and an automatic frequency-tuning circuit, wherein the automatic frequency-tuning circuit includes a frequency-redivision circuit, a frequency detection work control state machine, a frequency detection circuit and a decoding circuit. The automatic frequency-tuning circuit increases the oscillation frequency of the voltage-controlled oscillator when the voltage-controlled oscillator has an oscillation frequency lower than a reference frequency after passing the frequency divider and reduces the oscillation frequency of the voltage-controlled oscillator when the oscillation frequency is higher than the reference frequency. The invention also provides the above-mentioned automatic frequency-tuning method. The method has a rapid automatic frequency-tuning function so that the voltage-controlled oscillator can be rapidly tuned coarsely to a final fine tuning frequency sub-band and thus locking time of the phase-locked loop is reduce greatly.
