Embodiment approach

[0044] FIG. 1-1 is a diagram showing an example of the structure of an amplification medium according to the embodiment. FIG. 1-2 is a plan view showing the magnified medium shown in FIG. 1-1. As shown in FIGS. 1-1 and 1-2 , the amplification medium 100 of the embodiment includes a holey optical fiber 110 and a resin member 120 . The amplification medium 100 is an amplification medium that amplifies signal light by passing excitation light together with signal light.

[0045] The holey fiber 110 is an optical fiber having a plurality of holes parallel to the core in the cladding. Furthermore, the core of the holey fiber 110 is doped (added) with rare earth elements such as erbium (Er ions). The holey fiber 110 has a winding portion 111 that is three-dimensionally wound. In the examples shown in FIGS. 1-1 and 1-2 , the holey fiber 110 is wound helically.

[0046] Furthermore, the winding portion 111 of the holey fiber 110 is embedded in the resin member 120 . The end porti...

Abstract

An amplifier medium (100) comprises a holey fiber (110) and a resin member (120). Light is transmitted through the holey fiber (110). The holey fiber (110) also has a winding part (111) wound in a three-dimensional manner. The winding part (111) is embedded in the resin member (120). Signal light is transmitted through the amplifier medium (100). Also, the excited light emitted from a light source is incident into the amplifier medium (100). The temperature of the amplifier medium (100) is adjusted along with the light source by a temperature adjusting part.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an amplifying device and an amplifying medium for amplifying light. Background technique [0002] Conventionally, fiber-type amplifiers using optical fibers doped with rare earth elements, such as EDFA (Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier: Erbium-doped fiber amplifier), are known. In an optical fiber amplifier, in order to obtain good transmission characteristics, it is required to make the gain wavelength characteristic G(λ) flat. [0003] Optical amplifying media such as EDF (Erbium Doped Fiber, erbium-doped fiber) change the gain wavelength characteristic G(λ) due to the ambient temperature (eg -15[°C] to +60[°C]), and the transmission characteristics deteriorate. On the other hand, there is known a technique for adjusting the temperature of an optical amplifying medium using a temperature adjustment unit (see, for example, Patent Document 1 below). [0004] Patent Document 1: Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 4-1...
