An event prompting system comprises a user interface, an image acquisition device, a processor, an alarming device and a database. The image acquisition device is used for acquiring images and transmitting the images to the processor. The processor recognizes word strings in the images according to word string images of the database, and the processor generates word string recognition areas according to the word strings. The event prompting method comprises the steps that a target word string corresponding to one word string recognition area is input in the user interface; the processor operates the image acquisition device to acquire monitoring images containing the word string recognition area every pre-set time; the processor recognizes monitoring word strings of the corresponding word string recognition area from the monitoring images according to the word string images of the database; when the monitoring word strings and the target word string conform to rules, the processor controls the alarming device to execute the event prompting function.
