[0091] Example 2 - Attached to a Solid Oxide Unit plasma gun

[0092] now refer to Figure 7 , Figure 7 A cross-sectional view of a solid oxide plasma arc torch system 700 according to another embodiment of the invention is shown. The plasma arc torch 100 is connected to the unit 500 through an ejector 602 . The unit 500 was still filled with a solution of sodium bicarbonate and water. The pump 23 recirculates the solution of sodium bicarbonate and water from the outlet 416 of the hollow electrode 504 to the inlet 408 of the unit 500 . The pump 22 is connected to the first volute 31 of the plasma arc torch 100 through a three-way valve 604 and an ejector 602 . The air compressor 21 is used to introduce air and water from the pump 22 into the three-way valve 604 . The pump 22 is turned on and the water F flows into the first volute 31 of the plasma arc torch 100 and exits the torch 30 through the panoramic viewing window 33 and via the second volute 34 . The plasma arc...

[0104] Example 4 - Evaporation, Vapor Compression and Steam Formation for EOR and Industrial Steam Users

[0105] return Figure 4 , several oilfield wastewaters are evaporated in unit 400. To enhance evaporation, the suction side of a vapor compressor (not shown) may be connected to the upper outlet 410 . The discharge port of the vapor compressor will be connected to 416. Without being bound by theory, it is thought that things like Made by the company Alloy as the tubular cathode 412 can withstand the strong effect of the unit, so a new type of steam generator with superheater is realized by making the discharge of the vapor compressor flow through the tubular cathode 412. Such devices, methods and processes will be widely used throughout the upstream oil and gas industry to treat oilfield produced water and frac flowback.

[0106] As the cathode 12 within the unit 500, a variety of different stainless steel cylinders were tested. In contrast to a sheath glow discha...

example 8

[0213] Example 8 - with anodic electrode, linear actuator gun

[0214] The following example with unexpected results will clearly demonstrate a new and non-obvious multi-mode plasma gun. like figure 1 and Figure 11 shown The gun was electrically connected to an ESAB ESP 150 plasma arc power supply ("PS"). The ESP 150PS has been modified to operate in a load bank mode similar to a dead short circuit. As the arc jumps around the anode nozzle, the figure 1 shown The gun operates with voltage spikes, which are typical of non-transferred arc guns. The minimum current required to maintain the arc is 50 amps.

[0215] However, if Figure 11 As shown, when an additional anode electrode 1102 is added, the current potentiometer is rotated to its minimum position, where the current load is less than 30 amps. If the welder's helmet has a #13 shield, the arc is clearly seen and does transfer between the carbon gouging electrodes. The arc is maintained in a steady state. Thi...

Abstract

The present invention provides a multi-mode plasma arc torch comprising a cylindrical vessel having a first end and a second end; a first tangential inlet / outlet connected to or proximate said first end; connected to or proximate to said first end A second tangential inlet / outlet at both ends; an electrode housing connected to the first end of the cylindrical vessel such that the first electrode (a) is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical vessel, and (b) extends into the cylindrical vessel; and a hollow electrode nozzle attached to the second end of the cylindrical vessel such that a centerline of the hollow electrode nozzle is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical vessel. Adjusting the position of the electrode relative to the hollow electrode allows the multi-mode plasma arc torch to operate in dead short resistance mode, submerged arc mode, electrolysis mode, glow discharge mode, or plasma arc mode.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates generally to solid oxide electrolytic cells and plasma arcs. More particularly, the present invention relates to plasma guns having multiple modes of operation. Background technique [0002] With the emphasis on renewable fuels, pollution prevention, clean water, and more efficient treatment methods, the use of glow discharge and plasma systems is increasing. Glow discharge is also known as electric plasma, plasma electrolysis and high temperature electrolysis. In a liquid glow discharge system, a plasma sheath is formed around a cathode positioned within an electrolytic cell. [0003] US Patent No. 6,228,266 discloses a water treatment device and a water treatment method using a plasma reactor. The device includes a housing with a sewage inlet and a sewage outlet; a plurality of beads (e.g., nylon and other plastic type beads) filling the interior of the housing; a pair of electrodes, one in contact with the bottom of the hou...
