Abstract

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a purification apparatus and a purification method, each of which utilizes an elongated and closed water passage, and whereby it becomes possible to increase purification efficiency and maintain the device easily. A filtration apparatus (1A) is equipped with multiple cylindrical bodies (31-38) which are arranged in parallel to each other in such a manner that the length direction of each of the cylindrical bodies faces the vertical direction, and is also equipped with connection sections (42-48) each of which connects adjacent two of the cylindrical bodies (31-38) to form a water passage. The cylindrical bodies which are arranged in parallel to each other are connected up and down alternately by the connection sections (42-48). Each of the cylindrical bodies (31-37) constitutes a biological filtration section using an aerobic bacterium, and the cylindrical body (38) constitutes a biological filtration section using an anaerobic bacterium. A control valve (5) is provided in the connection section (48), and can arbitrarily control the flow volume of water to be purified which flows into the cylindrical body (38).
