Abstract

The optical non-linear polarization controlling element comprises an insulating transparent substrate, a metal plasma excimer layer and a refractive index controllable thin film. The metal plasma excimer layer is arranged on one surface of the insulating transparent substrate. The plasma excimer layer comprises multiple chiral micro-structures arranged periodically. The refractive index controllable thin film is arranged on the surface, away from the insulating transparent substrate, of the metal plasma excimer layer and covers the metal plasma excimer layer. The refractive index controllable thin film comprises a material with the refractive index capable of being controlled under illumination. A method for controlling incident light wave polarization includes the step that within certain time, polarized incident light and controlling light are adopted for irradiating the optical non-linear polarization controlling element from one side of the refractive index controllable thin film. Polarized light can be controlled in a full-light mode through the optical non-linear polarization controlling element, and the method has the advantages of being simple and high in response speed.
