Abstract

The invention provides a composition comprising the following components: A) an anhydride and / or carboxylic acid functionalized ethylene / alpha-olefin interpolymer comprising the following properties: i) a melt viscosity (177 DEG C) less than, or equal to, 50,000 cP; and ii) a density from 0.855 to 0.895 g / cc; B) a rosin-based tackifier; and wherein the tackifier is selected from the following: i) a partially hydrogenated glycerol ester; ii) a fully hydrogenated pentaerythritol ester; iii) a fully hydrogenated glycerol ester; iv) a non-hydrogenated ester with a Tg from 30 DEG C to 50 DEG C; or v) a combination thereof.

Description

[0001] References to related applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of International Application No. PCT / CN13 / 080036 filed on July 24, 2013. Background technique [0003] In the adhesive industry, single site catalyzed polyolefin elastomers are typically formulated with hydrogenated (H2HCR) or fully aliphatic tackifiers (for hot melt adhesives (HMA)) to achieve good adhesive performance. However, hydrogenated tackifiers are expensive to produce and are currently in tight supply. Rosin-based tackifiers (tackifiers derived from rosin) that are readily available are less costly than H2HCR tackifiers. There is a need for new adhesive compositions containing rosin-based tackifiers with improved heat resistance and flexibility at room and low temperatures (-17°C).
