Embodiment Construction

[0032] The method is shown by way of example, not limitation, in the various figures of the drawings, and like reference numerals denote like elements throughout the drawings. It should be noted that references to "a" or "an" or "some" embodiments in this disclosure are not necessarily references to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.

[0033] figure 1 A flowchart of an embodiment of a method 100 for arc fault detection according to an embodiment of the invention is shown. In general terms, the method 100 includes obtaining sound data from an electric device (step 102), extracting from the sound data characteristic vectors representing the characteristics of frequency-domain sub-band energy distribution of the sound data (step 104), and comparing the feature vectors to The plurality of reference vectors of the fault acoustic signal are compared and based on the comparison it is determined whether to generate an arc warning signal (step 106).

Abstract

Devices and methods for arc fault detection are disclosed. The present invention is directed towards the devices and methods for arc fault detection based on arc sound signals. The device can monitor sound data from a power device by one or more microphones arranged near the power device and extract the characteristic of the sound data. The device can also compare the characteristic of the sound data with the arc fault feature database, and then determine to generate an arc alarm signal. The device is a stand-alone device, which can provide the forecast and early warning of arc faults, and can improve the reliability of arc fault detection.

Description

technical field [0001] The present application relates generally to arc fault detection. In particular, the present application relates to systems and methods for arc fault detection based on arc acoustic signals. Background technique [0002] An arc flash fault is a catastrophic electrical accident in an electrical system, eg, switchgear, that is an explosion of heat, gas, and molten metal, usually caused by a short circuit of energized electrical conductors. To protect workers and electrical equipment against this hazard, arc fault protection systems are required. Numerous equipment fires and burns from low level flashover failures have been reported in the past. Conventional protection devices that rely on changes in device voltage and current cannot detect low-level flashover faults. The reason is that low-level flashover faults do not cause significant changes in device voltage and current. Common protective devices are themselves involved in the burnout that occurs...
