[0126] The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatus for dispensing compressed gas into receiving containers. The compressed gas can be natural gas. The compressed gas may be hydrogen, and the receiving vessel may be a hydrogen storage tank of a vehicle such as a car, truck, bus, forklift, or other vehicle. As used herein, the term compressed gas includes gases and supercritical fluids.

[0127] EP2174057B1 discloses one such method for dispensing hydrogen gas from a hydrogen source into a receiving container on a vehicle. This disclosure describes a variety of alternative allocation methods.

[0128] These methods are described with reference to the figures. Thicker lines indicate the path of the compressed gas during the various steps.

[0129] As used herein, the items "a" and "an" mean one or more when applied to any feature in the embodiments of the invention described in the specification and claims. The use of "a" and "an" does not limit the meaning of in...

Abstract

A method of dispensing compressed gas in cascade dispensing from the first plurality of storage containers and the second plurality of storage containers is used. A compressor is used to provide very high pressure compressed gas to the second plurality of pressure storage vessels. Various methods are described for different compressed gas sources. These methods are particularly suitable for dispensing hydrogen into storage containers in vehicles.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to European Patent Application 16170898.7, filed May 23, 2016, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application 62 / 356086, filed June 29, 2016, each of which is incorporated herein by reference. [0003] All references cited herein are incorporated by reference to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the extent references may not be fully incorporated herein, they are incorporated by reference herein for background purposes and are indicative of the knowledge of a person of ordinary skill in the art. [0004] Background of the invention [0005] There is growing interest in using hydrogen as a transportation fuel in cars, buses, trucks and other vehicles. Hydrogen is usually stored at high pressure in fuel tanks on vehicles. After most of the onboard hydrogen has been depleted, the hydrogen pressure in the fuel tank drops and the fuel tank must be topped up (refilled to target pressure) with h...
