Abstract

To provide a method for exciting ultrasonic oscillation for back-and-forth motion in a novel oscillation mode using a Langevin ultrasonic transducer, an ultrasonic machining method using this novel ultrasonic oscillation, and an ultrasonic transmission method. Provided is a method wherein: a Langevin ultrasonic transducer is prepared that includes a metal block, a metal block provided with a support framework protruding in a ring shape on side surfaces, and a poled piezoelectric element affixed between these metal blocks; the ultrasonic transducer is connected to a base via the support framework and supported in a restrained state; and then voltage having a prescribed frequency is applied to the piezoelectric element in the ultrasonic transducer, thereby exciting, in the ultrasonic transducer, ultrasonic oscillation for back-and-forth motion without holding an oscillation node within an oscillator in a direction perpendicular to a flat surface of the piezoelectric element. Also provided are an ultrasonic machining method and ultrasonic transmission method using this oscillation excitation method for an ultrasonic transducer.
