[0207] Preparation of Example Films

[0208] For each example film (EX1-EX16), the contact layer (E) was first prepared by hot pressing from a homogenized melt comprising the components of each contact layer.

[0209] The homogenized melt of the contact layer is obtained by melt homogenizing the composition comprising the components of the contact layer on a two-roll mill (from Labtech Engineering). The melt homogenization is carried out at a temperature of about 30° C. above the melting temperature of the polymer components. Sheets with a thickness of approximately 1 mm are then pressed from the homogenized melt using a hot press. The temperature of the material was maintained at approximately 30°C above the m...

Abstract

The invention is directed to a membrane used in waterproofing, roofing and tunneling applications, the membrane comprising a barrier layer S comprising thermoplastic polymer component P1 and a contactlayer S2 bonded directly to at least portion of the barrier layer S1, the contact layer S2 comprising a mixture of mineral binder component B, thermoplastic polymer component P2, and surfactant component SF. The invention is also directed to a method for producing the membrane, a method for waterproofing a substrate, to a waterproofed construction, to a method for sealing a substrate against water penetration and to a sealed construction for sealing a substrate against water penetration.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to waterproofing membranes for use in the construction industry, eg for basement, roof and tunnel applications to protect concrete structures against water penetration. Background technique [0002] Waterproofing membranes are commonly used in the construction industry to seal foundations, subsurface surfaces or buildings against water penetration. [0003] Prior art waterproofing membranes are multilayer systems comprising a polymer based barrier layer as the main layer to provide watertightness. Typical polymers used in barrier layers include thermoplastics such as plasticized polyvinyl chloride (p-PVC) and thermoplastic polyolefins (TPO) or elastomers such as ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM) and cross-linked chlorosulfur Chemicalized polyethylene (CSPE). One of the disadvantages of polymer based barrier layers is their poor bonding properties; they generally show low bonding to adhesives commonly used in the co...
