Embodiment Construction

[0036] figure 1 A schematic diagram showing images of contrast agent-based computed tomography imaging. The abdomen or abdominal region of a patient is shown here by way of example. Clearly, in order to determine the blood loss to which blood loss values are assigned, it makes sense to record a CT scan of the patient's trunk in order to be able to acquire and evaluate as many bleeding sites as possible. The aim of the method is to generate an annotated image data record which, as a result, includes blood loss values.

[0037] In principle, for example after a severe road accident, blood loss can occur simultaneously at several different anatomical points in the body and can sometimes be treated immediately (hemostasis). Herein, sites of bleeding visible on CT scans include: natural accumulations of blood in blood vessels (physiological accumulations of blood), these are also referred to as intravascular accumulations of blood; and pathological accumulations of blood, which...

Abstract

The invention relates to a precisely controllable gripper apparatus for low force applications. A system and a method are for quantifying blood loss on the basis of contrast-agent based computed tomography imaging of the torso of a patient. To this end, image data of a computed tomograph is firstly read in, in order thereupon to apply an image analysis method (2) for automatically detecting accumulations of blood. A differentiation method (3) is then carried out to differentiate between pathological and physiological accumulations of blood and a quantification algorithm (4) for calculating andoutputting (5) a blood loss value for the pathological accumulations of blood.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention concerns the technical fields of medical image processing and computed tomography and relates to the determination of blood loss in the case of multiple injuries. Background technique [0002] In medicine, the term "multiple injury" refers to a patient suffering multiple life-threatening injuries at the same time; this is very typical, for example, after a road traffic accident. Usually, such patients are examined mainly by using CT (Computed Tomography). A common problem in these patients involves multiple internal bleeding. In the case of external bleeding, the amount of blood loss is directly visible and can also be stopped externally (eg by compression), whereas internal bleeding sometimes requires surgery and the extent of blood loss can only be poorly assessed in the short term. Internal bleeding can be identified by using computed tomography. For this purpose, a contrast agent is usually administered. Leakage of the con...
