The magnesium alloy negative electrode is composed of following components in percentage by weight: 1.5 to 2.2 wt% of Zn, 1.2 to 2.0 wt% of Cu, 0.5 to 0.8 wt% of Ca, not more than 0.2 wt% of impurities, and the balance being Mg. The magnesium alloy material does not contain any heavy metal suchas cadmium, lead, mercury, or the like. The longest discharge time of a primary battery having a negative electrode made of the magnesium alloy material can reach 1452 minutes, and the results of environmental protection tests show that the magnesium alloy material is pollution-free to the environment.
