Background of the invention [0002] Polycarbonate (PC) is used in many industries for various applications due to its versatility and desirable properties. Polycarbonate offers high clarity and has high impact and heat resistance. Polycarbonates are generally produced according to one of two commercial production methods, the two-phase interface method and the melt transesterification method. The interfacial method involves reacting at least one dihydroxy compound, typically a dihydroxyaromatic compound, with phosgene in a solvent in the presence of a basic reagent as an acid acceptor and an amine as a catalyst.
