Embodiment Construction

[0079] In order to facilitate the understanding of the present invention, various terms are defined below. Terms defined herein have meanings commonly understood by those of ordinary skill in the art to which the present invention pertains. Terms such as "a," "an," and "the" are not intended to refer to only a single entity, but rather include the general class of specific examples that may be used for illustration. The terminology herein is used to describe specific embodiments of the invention, but their usage does not delimit the invention, except as outlined in the claims.

[0080] The term "pig" or variants thereof, as used herein, refers to any animal of the family Porcudae of the order Artiodactyla, which includes animals of the genus Porcupine and other related species, including, for example, peccacy, venus, and warthog.

[0081] As used herein, the term "pig" or variants thereof refers to any animal of the genus Porcupine. It includes the domestic pig (Susscrofa do...

Abstract

The present invention relates to genetically-edited swine comprising an introgressed heterologous nucleic acid sequence in the RELA gene. In particular it relates to genetically- edited swine comprising an introgressed warthog allele in the RALA gene of domestic pigs. The invention also related to methods of producing such swine, and cells derived from swine having such introgressed sequences.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to gene edited pigs comprising a heterologous nucleic acid sequence introgressed in the RELA gene. Background technique [0002] Traditional animal breeding uses sequence alterations throughout the genome. The offspring obtained from the mating of two animals have the genotypes of both parents as well as the de novo mutation. In agriculture, the capture of beneficial genotypes and their encoded traits results in genetic improvement. This process is time-consuming, requires extensive crossing, and relies on the presence of the desired genetic variation in the breeding population. During the breeding process, the eliminated variation cannot be exploited. [0003] Currently, the zinc finger nuclease (ZFN) method 2 Pioneering the development of targeted genome editing 1 Enables the use of variants that are not present in a particular population. This method relies on artificial nucleases to introduce double-strand breaks...
