Abstract

The invention relates to composite coatings for noise and vibration damping and brake pads with such coatings. The coating, in particular for the backside of the brake pad with respect to the braking side, comprises a pair of bonding layers and a composite layer. Each of the bonding layers includes an epoxy material. The composite layer is arranged between the pair of joining layers and comprises a mixture of rubber material and particles of a second material. The method of forming the coating comprises applying an epoxy layer to the surface to be coated to form a first bonding layer, applying a mixture of rubber material and particles of a second material to the first bonding layer to form a composite layer, An epoxy layer is applied to the composite layer to form a second tie layer, and the coating is then cured by a curing procedure.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to coatings of materials for machine components, and in particular to coatings for automotive components such as brake pads. Background technique [0002] Undesirable noise and vibration generated during the operation of a car is usually quantified as an NVH level (NVH - noise, vibration and harshness / noise, vibration and harshness). Automotive brakes are a common source of NVH. In particular, the interaction between the friction material on the brake pads and the brake disc causes vibration of the brake pads and disc, which can cause not only brake screeching, but also brake jerk and other effects. [0003] Various techniques have been used to reduce NVH of automotive brakes. Various friction materials and methods, such as the way the friction material is molded onto the brake pads, can affect the NVH generated during operation. However, these techniques alone are usually not sufficient to reduce NVH to ac...
