Problems solved by technology

The isotopes of Li that can be used for radiation measurement are Li-6 and Li-7, among which Li-7 is sensitive to gamma rays and can only be used for gamma measurement applications; while Li-6 not only has a larger reaction cross section with neutrons, but also Gamma rays are very sensitive, neutron and gamma signals must be distinguished when measuring neutrons, but in high-energy gamma components and strong gamma fields, it becomes extremely difficult because the pulse heights are almost the same
If Li-6 and Li-7 are used at the same time, two sets of test equipment will be required at the same time. For portable instruments, it will be more difficult due to the limitation of volume and weight

Abstract

The invention provides a method for measuring neutrons by a mercury-doped glass. The method comprises the following steps of: reacting a glass scintillator doped a predetermined proportion of mercurywith incident neutrons, wherein the energy released by the reaction is lost in the glass material, which will cause the nucleus of the glass material to be in an excited state, and a certain amount ofphotons will be emitted when de-excited; transmitting the optical signal to a photomultiplier tube through the glass, and recording a converted electrical signal; and multiplying the electrical signal by a fluence-dose conversion factor to obtain the neutron dose equivalent. According to the method for measuring neutrons by the mercury-doped glass, an excellent neutron sensitive material can be provided by doping a certain proportion of mercury material in the glass which is low in cost, easy to process, large or small in volume and resistant to acid, alkali and corrosion, the cost of neutronmeasurements can be reduced, n and [gamma] discrimination ability is high, and the adaptability to harsh environments such as high temperature, high humidity and corrosiveness is good.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention belongs to the technical field of radiation measurement, and in particular relates to a method for measuring neutrons in mercury-doped glass. Background technique [0002] The main component of glass is SiO 2 , Transparency to visible light is its biggest feature, and it is widely used in various industries due to its good transparency and low optical signal attenuation. Glass can not only transmit optical signals, but also emit photons under special conditions. At the same time, it has the advantages of large or small size, low cost, and easy processing, so it has also attracted the attention of the radiation measurement industry. [0003] Add neutron-sensitive substances into the glass to form a neutron scintillator. These substances undergo a nuclear reaction with neutrons. The energy released by the reaction will make the atomic nuclei of the glass material in an excited state, and a certain number of photons will be emitted when de-...
