Example Embodiment

[0323] Example

[0324] The technology will be more readily understood by reference to the following examples, which are provided to illustrate the invention and should not be construed to limit the scope of the invention in any way.

[0325] Unless defined otherwise or the context clearly dictates otherwise, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which this invention belongs. It should be understood that any methods and materials similar or equivalent to those described herein can be used in the practice or testing of the present invention.

Example Embodiment

[0326] Example A

[0327] I. Introduction of the sample.

[0328] step 1. The transfer tray 322 is to be stored in biological samples (lots) (eg, cell samples, tissue samples, biological samples (eg, proteins) in cell processing containers 314 placed in container holders (eg, tube holders 410, 452). or antibody) or other sample) from the isolator 120 into the housing 110. The container holder 410 is transferred from the transfer tray 322 to a predetermined location on the shelf 910 by the robotic module 700 (or into the storage area 300 until ready to be transferred on the shelf 910).

[0329] The remainder of the description is using cell or tissue samples (two days between medium replacements with fresh medium during culture) as batches and for illustration purposes only. From reading the following description and the entire remainder of this application, one skilled in the art will understand how the system processes biological, chemical or other samples.

Abstract

There are provided systems and methods for automated cell processing of biological samples, such as cells for use in cell therapy and regenerative medicine. Systems for automated processing of batchesderived from biological samples comprise: a closed and sterile enclosure; a plurality of reagent containers; at least one reagent dispenser; a quality control module for analyzing at least one characteristic of a batch; a harvesting module; a robotic module; and a control unit (CU) communicatively coupled to the at least one reagent dispenser, the quality control module, the harvesting module andthe robotic module for controlling the automatic processing of batches. The automatic processing may be executable without handling by a human operator. The system may be configured to automaticallyprocess the plurality of batches without cross-contamination between batches, e.g., under GMP conditions.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63 / 352,468, filed June 20, 2016, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to the field of cell processing employing automated systems, and more particularly, to devices and methods for processing cells and other biological samples for cell therapy and regenerative medicine. Background technique [0004] Stem cell therapy holds great promise for regenerative medicine. Stem cells have the potential to develop into many different cell types in the body and can theoretically divide indefinitely to replenish cells in need of repair. There are different types of stem cells with different ranges of options for commitment. Embryonic stem cells hold great potential for regenerative medicine, however, they have a number of disadvantages, including the possibility of trans...
