Embodiment

[0067] Table 1 describes example coating compositions that exhibit reduced ice adhesion and ice accumulation when applied to a substrate and cured. Each example was formed as a two-part composition in which the silicate binder was prepared separately from the remaining components. For each example, all components are listed in percent by dry weight, and all fillers were hydrophobized by treatment with a silane treatment agent. Table 1 further includes the ice adhesion strength of each example composition.

[0068] Comparative Example 1 has an average filler particle size of 1 μm to 1,000 μm, Comparative Example 2 has an average filler particle size of 1 μm to 20 μm, Inventive Example 3 has an average filler particle size of 1 μm to 20 μm, and Inventive Example 4 has an average filler particle size of 1 μm Average filler particle size of ~50 μm.

Abstract

A durable coating composition which reduces ice adherence and minimizes ice accumulation includes a silicate binder, a silane-modified filler, a film forming lubricant, and a crosslinking agent. Articles and overhead conductors coated with such coating compositions are also disclosed.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application Serial No. 62 / 410,699, filed October 20, 2016, entitled Durable Coating Compositions and Coatings Formed Therefrom, which is hereby incorporated by reference into this application in its entirety in the text. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to durable coating compositions, and to coating compositions that mitigate ice adhesion and minimize ice accumulation. Background technique [0004] Coatings formed from coating compositions comprising silicate binders can exhibit a number of useful properties that make such coatings particularly useful for overhead conductors and other related articles, including power line fittings. For example, coatings formed from such coating compositions can exhibit high durability, long service life, and resistance to corona, corrosion, and dusting. In addition, such coatings can exhibit high ...
