Problems solved by technology

Yet another problem is that the air trapped between the cement powder particles by the monomer liquid should be displaced from the top to the bottom because the air in the walls lower than the monomer liquid has the tendency to move towards the top in the cement powder instead of towards the vacuum due to gravity The tendency of connections to migrate to the bottom

Abstract

The invention relates to a device to produce a bone cement paste from a monomer liquid (4) and a cement powder (5) as starting components of the bone cement paste, and to dispense the mixed bone cement paste, the device comprising a cartridge (1) with a cylindrical interior, a dispensing plunger (7) which can move towards the front of the cartridge (1) being arranged in the interior of the cartridge (1) in a rear of the cartridge (1); a receptacle (2) which extends along a longitudinal direction, a front of the receptacle (2) being connected with the rear of the cartridge (1); a pumping plunger (6) which is arranged in the receptacle (2), the pumping plunger (6) being supported in the longitudinal direction of the receptacle (2) so it can be moved towards the front of the receptacle (2); abreakable ampoule (3) containing the monomer liquid (4), the ampoule (3) being arranged in the receptacle (2) between the pumping plunger (6) and the dispensing plunger (7) and the ampoule (3) havingan ampoule body (10) whereby at least some sections of the ampoule body (10) are in contact with the inner wall of the receptacle (2); and a spacer (9) which is arranged in the receptacle (2) betweenthe dispensing plunger (7) and the ampoule body (10) or between the pumping plunger (6) and the ampoule body (10), the spacer (9) extending in the longitudinal direction of the receptacle (2) and thespacer (9) being separated from the inner wall of the receptacle (2) by a distance which is at least as large as the wall thickness of the ampoule body (10). The invention also relates to a method toproduce a bone cement paste.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a device for producing a bone cement paste from a monomer liquid and cement powder as starting components of a bone cement (bone cement) and for dispensing the mixed bone cement paste. [0002] The invention also relates to a method for producing a bone cement paste, in particular a pasty polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement paste. [0003] The subject of the invention is in particular a device for storing, mixing and applying polymethylmethacrylate bone cement. This device is used for cementing total joint endoprostheses. The device according to the invention is preferably a fully pre-assembled cementing system. Background technique [0004] Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement is based on fundamental work done by Mr Charnley (Charnley, J.: Anchorage of the femoral head prosthesis of the shaft of the femur Anchoring). J. Bone Joint Surg. 42(1960) 28-30.). Conventional polymethylmethacrylate bone cement (PMMA bon...
