Embodiment Construction

[0015] One or more specific embodiments are described below. In an effort to provide a concise description of these embodiments, not all features of an actual implementation are described in the specification. It should be appreciated that in the development of any such actual implementation (as in any engineering or design project), a number of implementation-specific decisions must be made to achieve the developer's specific goals (such as meeting system-related and business-related constraints), the target may vary by implementation. Furthermore, it should be understood that such a development effort might be complex and time consuming, but would nonetheless be a routine undertaking of design, production, and fabrication for those of ordinary skill having the benefit of this disclosure.

[0016] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) system using a variable speed drive having silicon carbide trans...

Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) system that includes a variable speed drive (52) configured to provide power to a motor (50) that drives a compressor (32) of the HVAC&R system and a silicon carbide transistor (100) of the variable speed drive (52), where the silicon carbide transistor (100) is configured to adjusta voltage, or a frequency, or both of power flowing through the variable speed drive (52).

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority and benefit to U.S. Provisional Application Serial No. 62 / 404,648, filed October 5, 2016, entitled "SILICON CARBIDE MODULE FOR AVARIABLE SPEED DRIVE," and The aforementioned U.S. Provisional Application is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for all purposes. Background technique [0003] The present application relates generally to heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems, and more particularly to variable speed drives for HVAC&R systems. [0004] HVAC&R systems are used in residential, commercial, and industrial settings to control environmental characteristics such as temperature and humidity for the occupants of the respective environment. In some cases, an HVAC&R system may include a vapor compression system that circulates a working fluid along a refrigerant loop. The working fluid is configured to change phase between vapor, liquid, a...
