In a random access system, a user equipment (user equipment, UE) sends a random access channel (RACH) signal and receives a random access response (RAR) in order to establish a connection with a base station. An efficient random access procedure is provided for reducing the control overhead associated with establishing a connection in a random access system. The disclosed techniques may be used in microwave and millimeter wave spectrum wireless systems, but are not limited thereto.
