Method and apparatus for multimedia data interchange with pacing capability in a distributed data processing system

A method and apparatus for efficient multimedia data interchange which utilizes multimedia pacing in a distributed data processing system. During a multimedia communications session, each of a plurality of receiving stations transmits multimedia pacing requests to a sending station at negotiated set time intervals. The multimedia pacing request includes information on the availability of current storage for multimedia data at the receiving station, a minimum data time remaining in storage in the receiving station and other information pertaining to the interchange of the multimedia data. The sending station then allocates various priorities to the transmission of data to the plurality of receiving stations in an order indicative of the type of data, i.e. multimedia or non-multimedia, and the information in the multimedia pacing request pertaining to the minimum data time remaining in storage at the receiving station. In addition, the sending station periodically determines the availability of the transmission queue. When the transmission queue is not readily available, the sending station transfers only high priority multimedia data to the transmission queue; however when the transmission queue is available, the sending station transfers lower priority multimedia data to the transmission queue as well. The sending station can then supply a plurality of receiving stations with significant multimedia data in advance when the communications interface is not overloaded.

The invention provides a reliable data transmission method and a device thereof. The method comprises the following steps: a data transmitting end divides a file to be transmitted into a data packets with serial numbers; according to a preset buffer data packet format, the data packets are packaged into data packets to be transmitted, and then are added to a transmission buffer area: the data packets to be transmitted in the transmission buffer area are transmitted in sequence; the data packets confirmed at a data receiving end in the transmission buffer area are deleted; whether the stoppingtime of the data packets in the transmission buffer area is over a preset time threshold or not is judged, and if so, the data packets are reset to be the data packets to be transmitted; and the transmission process is repeated. In the scheme of the invention, as only the data format and the transmission process at the transmitting end and the receiving of the data packets are controlled, no special data packets are needed to be transmitted between the transmitting end and the receiving end to carry out handshake connection operation, and under the condition that the system expense is less and the data transmission efficiency is high, the problem that the existing UDP (User Datagram Protocol) can not reliably transmit the data can be solved.

Dynamic sub-carrier assignment in OFDM systems

A method and apparatus are provided for selecting and signalling the identity of sub-carriers to be used for transmission of data in a radio communication system, and for using other sub-carriers. A remote unit determines which sub-carriers are acceptable for use in data transmission by comparing the signal to interference ratio of each sub-carrier with a threshold. A sequence of numbers is generated using one set of values to identify acceptable sub-carriers and another set of values to identify unacceptable sub-carriers. The sequence of numbers is transmitted to a base station. The average signal to interference ratio of sub-carriers whose signal to interference ratio was above the threshold can also be transmitted to the base station, thereby allowing the base station to determine an optimum set of transmission parameters for use only in the acceptable sub-carriers. Alternatively, the remote unit can determine the optimum set of transmission parameters itself for transmission to the base station. As yet another alternative, the remote unit can determine an optimum Link Mode for each acceptable sub-carrier, and use a reference to the Link Modes as the set of values identifying acceptable sub-carriers. The base station transmits data over the acceptable sub-carriers at the optimum Link Mode or Link Modes. The base station may use some of the unacceptable sub-carriers for transmission of low sensitivity data at the optimum Link Mode, and may use some of the unacceptable sub-carriers for transmission of data at a lower Link Mode. The transmission power of any unused unacceptable sub-carriers can be diverted to other sub-carriers.
