Embodiment Construction

[0030] The present disclosure generally relates to reducing audible harmonic noise from electric machines.

[0031] figure 1 A drivetrain 10 for an electrified vehicle is schematically shown. Although shown as a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), it should be understood that the concepts described herein are not limited to HEVs and can be extended to other electric vehicles, including but not limited to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), Fuel cell vehicles, and battery electric vehicles (BEV).

[0032] In the exemplary, non-limiting embodiment, powertrain 10 is a power split powertrain employing a first drive system and a second drive system. The first drive system includes a combination of an engine 14 and a generator 18 (ie, a first electric machine). The second drive system includes at least a motor 22 (ie, a second electric machine), a generator 18 and a battery 24 . In this example, the second drive system is considered to be the electric drive system of powertrain...

Abstract

The disclosure provides electric machine noise attenuation. A system for controlling an electric machine of a vehicle includes, among other things, a controller module configured to attenuate noise from the electric machine by altering a corrective voltage in response to feedback about the noise. The corrective voltage and a fundamental voltage command are supplied to the electric machine as a combined voltage command. The corrective voltage is on a harmonic adjacent to a harmonic of the noise. A method of controlling noise associated with an electric machine of a vehicle includes, among otherthings, altering a corrective voltage to attenuate noise in response to feedback about the noise. The corrective voltage and a fundamental voltage command are supplied to the electric machine as a combined voltage command. The corrective voltage is on a harmonic adjacent to a harmonic of the noise.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to attenuating noise associated with electrical machines, and more particularly to attenuating audible harmonic noise. Background technique [0002] Electric vehicles differ from conventional motor vehicles in that electric vehicles are selectively propelled using one or more electric machines powered by traction batteries. Electric motors can replace or supplement internal combustion engines to drive electrified vehicles. Exemplary electrified vehicles include hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), fuel cell vehicles (FCV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV). [0003] During operation, electric motors can generate relatively high frequency forces in both radial and tangential directions. Vibration produces audible harmonic noise and audible pulse width modulated noise. Audible harmonic noise cannot be filtered as effectively as audible PWM noise. Contents of the invention...
