At least one state of health variable, in particular an electrical resistance, of the plurality of electric energy storage units is determined in each case. At least one state of charge variable, in particular an electrical voltage, of the plurality of electric energy storage units is also determined in each case. A further state of charge variable of a first electric energy storage unit of the plurality of electric energy storage units at atime differing from the preceding step is also determined on the basis of the state of charge variable of a second electric energy storage unit of the plurality of electric energy storage units, wherein the state of health variable of the first electric energy storage unit and the state of health variable of the second electric energy storage unit satisfy at least one predefined criterion.
