Problems solved by technology

However, such a multi-layer structure may suffer from delamination of the various layers in the operating environment
For example, the adhesion between the X-ray generating layer and the thermally conductive layer may be insufficient during operation due to insufficient interfacial chemical bonding between the layers

Abstract

An X-ray source target includes a structure configured to generate X-rays when impacted by an electron beam. The structure has an X-ray generating layer comprising X-ray generating material, and a thermally-conductive layer adjacent to and in thermal communication with the X-ray generating layer. The stress relieving layer is adjacent to the thermally-conductive layer. The thermally-conductive layer is sandwiched between the X-ray generating layer and the stress relieving layer.

Description

technical field [0001] The subject matter disclosed herein relates to X-ray targets. In particular, the subject matter disclosed herein relates to multilayer X-ray targets having high thermal conductivity layers and stress relief layers. Background technique [0002] Various medical diagnostic, laboratory, safety inspection, and industrial quality control imaging systems, as well as certain other types of systems (e.g., radiation-based therapy systems), utilize X-ray tubes as radiation sources during operation. Typically, an X-ray tube includes a cathode and an anode. An electron beam emitter within the cathode emits a stream of electrons toward the anode, which includes a target that is struck by the electrons. [0003] Most of the energy deposited by the electron beam into the target generates heat within the target, and another part of the energy results in the generation of X-ray radiation. In fact, only about 1% of the energy generated by the electron beam X-ray targ...
