However, sending two identical OFDM symbols doubles the transmission delay
On the other hand, constructing symbols with two (or more) identical time series will result in the presence of zeros in the frequency domain, thus not allowing the same symbols to be used to perform accurate channel estimation

Abstract

Mechanisms are provided for frequency offset estimation in a wireless communication network for grid control. The wireless communication network employs time-based packet scheduling. A method is performed by a packet receiver in the wireless communication network. The method includes receiving a packet from a packet transmitter. The packet includes a preamble. The preamble consists of samples of a single OFDM symbol. The preamble has a CP defined by repeating samples from the end of the preamble. Except for the CP, the preamble does not contain any repeated sample sequence. The method comprises determining a sequence of similarity measure values (ie correlations) between the CP of the preamble and the tail of the preamble. The method includes applying a low pass filter to the sequence of similarity measures, thereby producing a filtered sequence of similarity measures. The method includes performing frequency offset estimation on the sequence of filtered similarity measures.

Description

technical field [0001] Embodiments presented herein relate to a method, a packet receiver, a computer program and a computer program product for frequency offset estimation in a wireless communication network for grid control. Background technique [0002] Wireless networks for grid control (eg, in substation automation) require low latency and high reliability. Currently available industrial wireless standards such as WirelessHART (HART is an acronym for Highway Addressable Remote Transducer) or Wireless Networks for Industrial Automation-Factory Automation (WIA-FA) fail in these respects. Cannot provide high performance because they rely on a non-optimized physical (PHY) communication layer. For example, WIA-FA is based on the IEEE 802.11g / n PHY layer, and its minimum transmission time for a 100-bit packet (packet) is about 30 μs, while many current grid applications based on wired local area networks (LANs) complying with IEC 61850 require slot times for a few μs or eve...
