Problems solved by technology

Also, if the patient moves or the C-arm device moves, the registration needs to be re-performed
[0005] CT image-based planning has the advantage of providing axial views as above, but the disadvantage is that CT scans are harmful to the human body due to prolonged radiation exposure and need to be registered with C-arm 2D images
[0006] C-arm images, on the other hand, do not provide an axial view of the spine and are not suitable for planning because the parts of the spine required for planning are not fully represented on the anterior-posterior (AP) and lateral (LL) images

Embodiment Construction

[0025] Embodiments of the present disclosure will be described below with reference to the drawings.

[0026] figure 2 is a schematic block diagram of a planning system for pedicle screw fixation according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0027] refer to figure 2 , the planning system for pedicle screw fixation according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a C-arm 10 , an insertion path provider 20 , an optical tracking device 30 , a register 40 , a guide 50 and a screw determiner 60 .

[0028] The C-arm 10 is used to capture images of the patient's spine, and the C-arm X-ray images are captured using X-ray sources and detectors disposed at both ends of the C-shaped frame.

[0029] The insertion path provider 20 is used to provide the entry point and the insertion end point of the pedicle screw corresponding to the C-arm image. Here, the insertion end point refers to the position of the screw end when the pedicle screw is inserted and fixed in...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a system and a method for planning pedicle screw fixation and, more specifically, to a system and a method for planning the length, insertion path, etc. of a pedicle screw on the basis of a C-arm image. The system for planning pedicle screw fixation of the present invention comprises: a C-arm for taking an image of the spine of a patient; an insertion path provision unit for providing an entry point and insertion endpoint of a pedicle screw, on a C-arm image; a registration unit for calculating the spatial coordinates of the entry point and insertion endpoint on the basis of a reference coordinate system; a guide device which determines an insertion position of the pedicle screw on the basis of the spatial coordinates of the entry point and insertion endpoint, and which guides insertion of a probe towards the entry point according to the insertion position; and a screw determination unit which determines a length condition of the pedicle screw by acquiring the coordinates of a start point at which the probe touches the bone as the probe is inserted, and calculating the distance between the coordinates of the insertion endpoint and the coordinates of the start point. The present invention uses the C-arm image instead of a conventional CT image used during planning and can, thereby, reduce the radiation exposure of the patient and simplify a surgical procedure. According to the present invention, a surgical plan can be modified and adjusted on the basis of the C-arm image even during a surgery, and the accuracy of surgical process review and surgical tool navigation can be improved, as image registration can be omitted. Also, the surgical procedure can be performed quickly, as the present invention can be continuously utilized for the surgery on the basis of a screw guide position used during planning.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to a system and method for planning pedicle screw fixation, and more particularly, to a system and method for planning pedicle screw length, insertion path, etc. based on C-arm images. Background technique [0002] Pedicle screws are used for spinal fixation. They are inserted through the pedicle and fixed in the vertebral body. Pedicle screw fixation planning refers to the operation operator determining the length and diameter of the pedicle screw suitable for the patient and the surgical site. And the process of pre-planning the insertion path of the pedicle screw. [0003] Such as figure 1 As shown, the axial view of the spine is most beneficial for the operator's planning. However, the C-arm device cannot provide an axial view of the spine, so computed tomography (CT) images are taken before surgery to provide the operator with an axial view for preoperative planning. [0004] Although CT images are used for execut...
