Embodiment Construction
[0036] Described below are methods for producing compositions and matrices comprising alginate and nanofibrillated cellulose derived from alginate and cellulose from samples of the same brown seaweed species Laminaria palmatum. The resulting compositions and matrices were evaluated and compared to a reference material comprising nanofibrillated cellulose from another cellulose source. It should be understood that the method steps and chemistries given below are examples only and should not be construed as limiting methods and compositions / matrixes. It was shown that the composition / matrix obtained from Laminaria palmatum has similar properties to alginate / CNF compositions known in the art.

A natural composition for 3D printing comprising alginate from brown seaweed and cellulose nanofibers, wherein the cellulose nanofibers originate from cellulose from the same brown seaweed sample(s) as the alginate.
Description
technical field [0001] This document relates to natural compositions and shaped materials comprising alginate from brown seaweed and cellulose nanofibers derived from cellulose from a brown seaweed sample of the same origin as said alginate; It relates to the use of such natural compositions; and to methods for producing such natural compositions and shaped materials. Background technique [0002] Brown seaweed is a promising natural resource for carbohydrate extracts. The polysaccharides in brown seaweed are very different from those in land plants. Although cellulose is present in minor fractions, alginate is the major structural component of the cell wall. Therefore, the most common source of alginate for commercial use is from brown seaweed. (Misurcova et al., 2012) [0003] Alginate consists of 1,4-glycosidically linked α-L guluronic acid (G) and β-D-mannuronic acid (M). The linear chain is composed of different blocks of guluronic and mannuronic acids known as MM ...
