Abstract

A two-stroke uniflow scavenging crosshead internal combustion engine includes at least one cylinder, a cylinder head, a piston, a fuel supply system, and a scavenging system. The cylinder has a cylinder wall, the cylinder head is arranged on a top of the cylinder and having an exhaust valve, the piston is movably arranged within the cylinder along a central axis between a bottom dead center and a top dead center, the scavenging system has a scavenging inlet arranged at a bottom of the cylinder, and the fuel supply system is configured to inject fuel into a main combustion chamber defined between the piston and the cylinder head. The engine further includes a pre-chamber assembly including an inner pre-chamber and an outer pre-chamber. The inner pre-chamber is provided with an ignition system configured to ignite a fuel / air mixture in the inner pre-chamber.
