Embodiment Construction

[0017] Embodiments of the present disclosure include two sensors located in the wheels of the vehicle. One sensor senses wheel rotation and the other sensor senses vertical acceleration. The vehicle passes a mat (substrate) on the floor which includes vertically elevated ridges thereon which can be used to encode the mat and thus the position where the mat is located. As the vehicle travels on the mat, vertical acceleration sensors in the wheels detect the vertically elevated ridges and combine the information from the wheel rotation sensors to decode these vertically elevated ridges into binary values representing the mat the vehicle is passing through , the binary value is recorded in the wheel and then downloaded (read electronically) to determine when and where the vehicle is. It is contemplated and within the scope of the present disclosure that vehicles having at least one wheel may include shopping carts, grocery carts, material handling vehicles such as forklifts, h...

Abstract

A vehicle movement tracking system employs a floor mat having a ridge for generating location information in the form of modulated vibrations, the ridge being detectable with an accelerometer. There are two sensors in the wheels of the vehicle. One sensor senses wheel rotation and the other sensor senses vertical acceleration. A vehicle passes through a floor mat that includes a vertically raised ridge located thereon that encodes the mat and thereby indicates the location of the mat. When the vehicle travels over the mat, a vertical acceleration sensor in the wheel detects vertically raised ridges and a wheel rotation sensor detects a distance between the vertically raised ridges. The two sensors are combined to create a position word representing the mat through which the vehicle passes. The location word is stored in a non-volatile memory and then uploaded to a location collection station.

Description

[0001] Related patent applications [0002] This application claims priority to commonly owned US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 913,239, filed October 10, 2019, entitled "Vibration-Based Tracking System," and which is hereby incorporated by reference. for all purposes. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to tracking systems, and more particularly to vibration-based tracking systems. Background technique [0004] Tracking the movement of a vehicle through an enclosed environment has always been a problem, especially when trying to implement this tracking at low power. The Global Positioning System (GPS) has been used and used for higher power systems, but needs to continuously receive positioning to maintain position information. Using GPS in steel buildings is also a problem. Another tracking option has been to put barcodes on the floor, but they cannot be read properly due to dust and wear rendering them unusable. Yet another tracking ...
