That is, by arranging and using multiple air gaps along the magnetic circuit, the magnetic field present in the air gaps can easily be reduced by a factor of four. This reduction in the magnetic field reduces the proximity effect, resulting in a reduction in the effective resistance of the wires that comprise the inductor or transformer winding. Current flowing through a conductor exhibiting a reduced effective resistance results in the generation of less heat and a smaller radiated electromagnetic field. Due to the small radiation field, the consequent radiation emissions are small, especially in the case of figure 2 In the preferred embodiment shown.
