Dental imaging and treatment system

An intra-oral dental irradiation device for use in dental procedures for whitening teeth, imaging teeth, and making impressions of tooth structures of a patient. The device features one or a plurality of LED devices mounted to an arched shaped structure which project light upon or through teeth. In the whitening mode the light of the proper spectrum to activate enamel whitening material is projected. In the imaging mode light projected by the LED devices is received by a charged coupled device which communicates the image of the light passing through the teeth from the LED devices, to a computer. In making dental impressions, the device projects light in a spectrum that provides the catalyst to material that hardens when exposed to that spectrum thereby hardening dental impression material when inserted over the teeth of a patient.

Method of making a dental implant and prosthetic device

A method of preparing a dental implant and prosthetic device in-house at the site of a dental procedure from a preparation kit, without requiring an external third-party lab to prepare the final prosthetic device. The kit contains a porous block, a thermoset polymeric resin, and an initiator, where the resin and initiator are both packaged in substantially airtight and substantially opaque packaging. The resin and initiator are combined together to form a resin mixture which is then infiltrated into the pores of the porous block to form an esthetic material. A digital scan of at least a portion of a patient's jaw is used to provide the desired shape of the dental device to a cutting mechanism, which then cuts the filled or un-filled porous block based on the shape provided to it from the digital scan.

Methods and apparatus for simulating dental procedures and for training dental students

A training system using haptically enhanced simulations of dental procedures to provide the sensorimotor involvement needed for dental training. To provide touch feedback in combination with a realistic visual experience, the system integrates a haptic stylus interface for simulating the movement and feel of the tool-tip with a three-dimensional, stereoscopic display. The haptic stylus enables the dental student to orient and operate simulated dental tools. Working on a virtual model viewed in a stereo display, dental students can use a simulated pick to probe a tooth, or a simulated drill to prepare a tooth for cavity repair. The touch feedback is simulated by representing these dental instruments as force-to-a-point tools which map to haptic simulation procedures executed on a computer workstation that also provides the visual display.

Intra-session control of transcranial magnetic stimulation

Described herein are methods for controlling Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation during or within a session, where direct immediate patient reported feedback is utilized to assess the effect and optimize the treatment in real time. These methods may be applicable to superficial repetitive Transcranial Magnet Stimulation (rTMS) or deep-brain stereotactic Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (sTMS). Examples of therapies that may benefit from these methods include TMS treatment of: acute pain (e.g., during dental procedures or bunionectomies), depression, or Parkinson's Disease, to name only a few. TMS systems and devices including or more patient inputs that may be used to perform these methods are also described.

The wax is capable of softening at body temperature. The patterns include a fold line formed along their lengths so an outer portion extends from the fold line about the length of the average person's front teeth, for example, about 0.625 inches. The inner portion is slightly smaller, for example, about 0.375 inches. The inner portions have gaps to permit the folded pattern to fit inside the patient's mouth. The inside of the tray may be textured to assist in holding bleaching material. The tray can be reused, and it is suitable for bleaching, fluoride treatment, stain removal, and other conventional dental procedures.

Intraoral illumination device

InactiveUS7153131B2Inexpensively-manufactured and low-cost intraoralEasily positioned and securedSurgeryEndoscopesDental patientsChemical composition
An intraoral illumination device for illuminating the interior of the mouth of a dental patient. The device comprises a flexible container having container defining walls, a portion of the walls being light transmitting. The device is sized for insertion into the mouth and placement against an interior surface of the mouth, e.g., the gum. A pressure-sensitive adhesive layer covers a portion of the walls for adhesively mounting the device to the interior surface of the mouth. A first chamber and a second chamber are within the container. The chambers are connected to each other by a frangible wall. Each of the chambers contain a chemical composition that when mixed together create a chemiluminescent reaction that produces light. When the frangible wall is fractured by flexing the container, it permits the compositions to mix within the container to create a chemiluminescent reaction that emits light through the container walls to illuminate the mouth, permitting dental procedures to be easily performed.
